Your Ruby Organisers took a trip to the Southern States of the USA recently and despite the bad timing of the pound tanking against the dollar, a good time was had by all!
We started off in the city of Atlanta, staying on Peachtree Street, which as all fans of Gone With the Wind will know, is where Scarlett stayed with Aunt Pittypat and had to flee the burning city with Melanie and her new born baby and Prissy.
Needless to say, nothing of that era remains in this part of town!
We then moved on to Nashville and Memphis, Natchez and New Orleans, stopping at any vintage shops and thrift stores we could see – things were quite expensive but we found a few bargains to bring back for future fairs.
We then picked up an RV from Cruise America and toured (slowly) the Smokey Mountains, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the lakes of Georgia. We considered heading towards Savannah and Charleston on the coast but time was running out and Hurricane Ian was barrellling in!
The vintage scene is quite patchy in this area with lots of antique malls and shops in one area but closed down vintages stores in others. The best place was a whole row of antique stores in Dillard, Georgia and a huge old cotton mill on 2 floors in Monroe, Georgia.
