Ruby says Goodbye to the Abingdon Guildhall (temporarily….)

Guildhall4

The sun shone and it was a party atmosphere at the Guildhall in Abingdon on Saturday 6th June when Ruby arrived in town!  Ruby herself fired up her engine and made her way to the archway facing the market square where she parked to help publicise the Fair.   Just as well as the banner belonging to the Guildhall was cut down and removed! Fortunately our banners outside the Guildhall and on Tesco’s roundabout remained.

There was a large free event going on in the Abbey Gardens which meant lots of town folk passing the door during the day – some curious people wandered in and had a jolly time, some seemed to think that this event should also be free but their loss because they missed a cracking Fair!

The 2 rooms were buzzing all day and we love to see visitors going out into the town to get more cash – always a good sign.  Although the Guildhall weren’t able to lay on their usual tea and cakes, Java & Co in the market square offered all our visitors and stallholders 10% discount if they said that “they were with Ruby”

Almost 500 visitors came along, many of whom had been before. Anita is a regular visitor and now Dawn who comes all the way from Nottingham. Lovely to see you both, looking fabulous as always.

We like to think that we offer a wide variety of good quality vintage and retro items for sale and we aim to have a mixture of regulars like Hayley and Gary Shaw who showcase a delightful array of true vintage and unusual repro dresses with “Frocks in Swingtime”, Jackie Haworth who specialises in beautiful jewellery made from vintage beads, and the beautiful decorative china and other items from Rose and Mel of “Fabbydandoozy” as well as new sellers like Paula Daly of Mouse to Minx who offered everyone the chance to star in their own retro book cover and brought back many happy memories to gels of a certain age with her Bunty illustrated mugs, aprons and tea towels.

We were thrilled to get comments such as “the best vintage fair I’ve been to”  and “better than….. (we won’t name it but it’s another regular vintage fair which is much bigger than us and trades not far away) so thank you to all of our stallholders who come along and make it such a great event for everyone.

The Guildhall is now closing at the end of August for a 12-18 month refurbishment so Ruby’s will be at other venues in the local area during this period – we are at the Beacon in Wantage on Sunday 29th November and then have 2 more exciting venues to announce later in the year for 2016.

Stick around……..
